3rd Annual FilmGate Interactive Creative Conference Announces 2016 Award Winners

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sunday night, FilmGate Interactive Creative Conference came to an end after a successful week, featuring international filmmakers, virtual reality, and interactive storytelling at the historical Deauville Beach Resort in Miami Beach. With the support of the Knight Foundation, VER, Fordistas and the French Embassy Cultural Services, the Miami Beach Visitors Authority and the Miami Dade Cultural Affairs Office, the Conference attendees were immersed into a world where storytelling and technology intertwined.

The conference offered 20 screenings, 10 of them being interactive, 7 Fordistas virtual reality experiences, 13 workshops, 7 interactive installations and the VER Tech Playground, a curated technology fair with 30 selected exhibitors offering innovative products (cameras, lights, cranes, lenses, gaming software, apps, video equipment, etc.) and services.

One of the highlights of the Conference was the Invasive Species Dinner. Guests were invited to a screening about the threat of lionfish to South Florida's ecology, directed and moderated by Kerrin and Elaine Sheldon. The screening became interactive as guests enjoyed an enticing three-course meal, prepared by local Chef Pedro Restrepo, featuring lionfish; freshly caught by Islamorada Dive Center's owner Eric Billips. The meal was accompanied by berries, fruits and vegetables of invasive species, sourced out by local forager Tiffany Noé.

The week-long creative conference came to a close Sunday with an award ceremony, scored by the sounds and performances of Miami DJ Aremer Jack, Canadian musicians Maylee Todd and Rich Aucoin. During this evening of celebration, the award winners in the categories of Best 'I'm Not Going to Move to L.A (short films), Best Interactive Documentary, Best Interactive Narrative, and Best Virtual Reality Experience were announced. The winners were:

Best I'm Not Going to Move to L.A: Pineal Warriors (Egon von Schirach)

Best Interactive Documentary: Criers of Medellin (Angela Carabali and Thibault Durand)
