Non-Profit to Host First Virtual Professional Learning Conference in the Education Industry
National HIVE Conference to Showcase Tools Educators Need in Post-COVID-19 Era

MENLO PARK, Calif., April 16, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Open Up Resources, the nonprofit committed to equity in education by making the highest quality curriculum freely accessible to school districts and educators, announces that its annual professional learning conference, HIVE, will be hosted virtually in 2020 to observe COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. In addition to deepening participants' understanding of curriculum, student learning, and instruction, each pathway at HIVE 2020 will incorporate best practices for remote teaching and learning. The national five-day conference is the first of its kind in the education space transformed into a virtual convening.

At HIVE 2020, Open Up Resources will provide its community of educators with timely and relevant professional learning opportunities and a powerful peer-to-peer experience for personal support and professional development through synchronous Zoom sessions. The conference features thought-provoking keynotes by K-12 experts, interactive workshops facilitated by Open Up's curriculum authors, instructional experts, master educators, coffee chats, and more. All sessions will be live and recorded for participants to access in the future.

"The response to this year's HIVE 2020 conference going virtual has been overwhelming," said Jessica Reid Sliwerski, CEO of Open Up Resources. "Because of the current environment, we know it is vital to provide a forum for educators across the country to come together, learn from, and support one another as they plan and prepare to facilitate some form of distance learning in the upcoming school year. Teachers and leaders are eager for support around the multitude of uncertainties they face heading into the new school year, and we want to provide them with essential tools in this new COVID-19 era. We will share and discuss teaching methods designed to maximize educator effectiveness and ensure student engagement around our high-quality curriculum, which is of dire importance now."

The event's keynote speaker is Dr. Kristopher J. Childs who has created a movement to inspire all who are involved in academic endeavors globally to pursue excellence and academic success. Additional speakers include: Natalie Wexler, Dr. Amanda Jansen, Sara Van Der Werf, and D. Lacy Asbill. More speakers and schedules to be announced.
