Wolters Kluwer Announces Second Annual Award for Legal Education Innovation: Submissions Now Open for Leading Edge Prize
Winners will be chosen for their ideas to help improve student outcomes and educational opportunities

NEW YORK, July 11, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory U.S. has announced that submissions are now open for the prestigious Leading Edge Prize for Educational Innovation. $10,000 will be awarded to two winning teams that demonstrate solutions to increase educational opportunities and outcomes for law students across the country. Submissions for award consideration are due August 15, 2019, and winners will be announced in early October.

One prize will be awarded to a team consisting specifically of Leading Edge Conference attendees, and the second prize will be awarded to a team consisting of faculty from any law schools in the U.S. A panel of industry experts will judge the submissions with the following criteria in mind:

  • Actionable: Does the solution have the potential for immediate implementation?
  • Scalable: Does the solution have the potential for widespread use?
  • Impactful: Does the prize have the potential to significantly influence the feasibility and outcome of the solution's implementation?

"We are excited to bring the Leading Edge Prize for Educational Innovation back for a second year," said Vikram Savkar, Vice President & General Manager, International and Higher Education Markets at Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory U.S. "The participants of last year's competition developed innovative solutions by exploring how data and technology can improve legal education outcomes. This year, we are looking forward to facilitating a creative dialogue with an even wider range of participants to solve the legal education community's most significant challenges."

Wolters Kluwer launched the award last year at its 5th Annual Leading Edge Conference, an invitation-only gathering of the country's top legal education thought leaders. Established as an experiment in attendee-driven "unconferences," Leading Edge has become a highly regarded gathering for the legal education community, with more than half of all law schools in the United States having participated.

The inaugural winners included two teams, The Pathways Project: Connecting Ambition with Opportunity for Underrepresented Law Students and Expanding Access to Justice and Practical Legal Training, both of which demonstrated a vision for improving outcomes and educational opportunities for law school students and new associates.
