BELLEVUE, Wash., Feb. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- When the national nonprofit Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation opens its new addiction treatment center in "The Evergreen State" this April, the site will be led by a veteran Seattle-area clinical leader.
David Anderson, LMHC, CDP, has been hired as the first director of "Hazelden Betty Ford in Bellevue," an outpatient addiction treatment center for adults and provider of "screening, brief intervention and referral-to-treatment" (SBIRT) services for teens. Adult services will include daily group-therapy sessions, opioid-specific support groups, individual counseling, family support and resources, mental health services, and prescriptions for patients engaged in medication-assisted treatment.

Anderson has a master's degree in marital and family therapy from Seattle Pacific University and has been helping youth and adults in Washington overcome addiction, depression, trauma and other mental health conditions for almost 35 years. Most recently, he spent 16 years at EvergreenHealth Monroe (formerly Valley General Hospital) as manager and then director of its Recovery Center. Prior to that, he worked at Cigna Behavioral Health and Compass Health.

The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, will now have 17 sites across the country, including two in the Portland area. It also has extensive education, prevention, research, advocacy and publishing resources. In Bellevue, the nonprofit leader expects to begin accepting patients in April, with a ribbon-cutting event open to the public in early May.
Hazelden Betty Ford is already engaging with stakeholders throughout the Seattle-area business, healthcare and recovery communities. Vice President of Community Relations and Public Affairs William C. Moyers, a best-selling author and nationally renowned speaker, will present at the Pierce County Opioid Summit at Pacific Lutheran University on Feb. 22. Among other topics, he will share about Hazelden Betty Ford's innovative framework for treating opioid addiction. Its Comprehensive Opioid Response with the Twelve Steps, or COR-12™, framework combines the use of medications, evidence-based clinical therapies and peer support to help people suffering from opioid use disorder not only stabilize but begin to transform their lives and get established in long-term recovery. The new outpatient center in Bellevue will be part of the Overlake Medical Pavilion (1231 116th Ave NE), which is next door to Overlake Medical Center, a 349-bed nonprofit hospital, and has a diverse population of 1.8 million people living within 15 miles of it. The Pavilion is easily accessible via public transportation, including a nearby light rail stop currently under construction.
