Digital Forensic Expert Heather Mahalik to Keynote SANS Seattle Cyber Security Training Event
Will Discuss Risks to Personal Data Collected and Stored in the Cloud via Apple Watches and iPhones

BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 31, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in cyber security training, today announced the keynote speaker for SANS Seattle Spring 2019 (#SANSSeattle) taking place in Washington state April 14-19. Digital Forensic expert Heather Mahalik (@HeatherMahalik) will discuss iCloud risks during her keynote address, "An apple a day may keep the Dr. away, but it can't prevent cloudy weather".

According to Mahalik, "Cloud data contains a lot of a user's personal information, all of which is at risk should there be a cloud breach. Some may think the chances are low that iCloud as a whole will be attacked, and most would agree. However, the chances of a single user being attacked is greater and happens more than most realize. Join me in Seattle where I will share different ways our data can be stolen, what is collected in the cloud and how to secure our devices to prevent unwanted data from heading to the cloud."

In addition to her keynote discussion, Mahalik will teach FOR500: Windows Forensic Analysis. This course focuses on building in-depth digital forensics knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems. Students will learn how to recover, analyze, and authenticate forensic data on Windows systems, track particular user activity on a network, and organize findings for use in incident response, internal investigations, and civil/criminal litigation.

Additional course topics at SANS Seattle Spring 2019 include cyber defense, ethical hacking, and penetration testing. All courses are associated with GIAC certifications. Those new to cyber security will benefit from the SEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style course. More seasoned cyber security professionals will benefit from courses like SEC511: Continuous Monitoring and Security Operations, SEC560: Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking, and SEC599: Defeating Advanced Adversaries - Purple Team Tactics & Kill Chain Defenses.
