Nanning: Delightful site of the China's winter garden expo

BEIJING, Dec. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A news report by China.org.cn on the 12th China International Garden Expo in Nanning:

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. On Dec. 6, the 12th China International Garden Expo opened in Nanning, the regional capital.

The event, being held for the first time in winter, features "integration and shared benefits". It has attracted 44 Chinese cities and 19 ones from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and countries along the Belt and Road. The exhibition hall includes many pavilions, such as Malaysia's "Rain Forest Echo", the "Old Zen City" of Laos, Indonesia's "Thousand Island Dream", and Brunei's "Royal Impression". Pavilions of Spain, Italy, Japan, France, the United Arab Emirates and many other countries are also a feature of the expo, meaning visitors can "visit much of Asia and Europe in a single day".

What makes Nanning so closely connected with 10 ASEAN member states and other countries along the Belt and Road?

Facing the South China Sea, Guangxi is China's only provincial-level administrative district bordering ASEAN countries both on land and at sea. Nanning is now playing an important role in connecting China with Southeast Asia. In 2004, the regional capital was earmarked as the permanent host of the annual China-ASEAN Expo. Since then, the city has hosted an increasing number of international events. By seizing these opportunities, it has enhanced cooperation and friendship with the various ASEAN member states, as well as the countries stretching out along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road in trade, culture and other fields. In this way, it has gradually developed into a regional international city of wide openness.

While promoting foreign exchanges, Nanning has also improved its urban environment. Renowned for its picturesque scenery, the city has worked hard to maintain its mountains, lakes and vegetation in pristine condition when preparing to host the expo. Recent years have also seen continuous improvement of the ecological environment along the Yong River, the city's chief waterway. Living in the beautiful city through which flows the crystal clear waters of the Yong River, and with facilities like waterside wooden walkways and cycling paths offering much convenience, the local people have developed a strong sense of happiness.

Nanning, once a small city on China's southern border, has made considerable progress in both reform and opening up. Its development is an epitome of the achievements registered through 40 years of reform and opening up, adding luster to six decades of advancement since the establishment of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

It welcomes friends from across the world to the garden expo held in Nanning, hoping that you will be entranced by this pleasant, open and green city.
