Expert on the Connection Between Happiness and Success, Shawn Achor, Named GS1 Connect 2019 Keynote Speaker
Attendees Will Learn Practical Strategies for Reaping the "Happiness Advantage" in the Midst of Change

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J., Nov. 15, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Shawn Achor, happiness expert and bestselling author of The Happiness Advantage and Big Potential, has been selected to headline GS1 Connect® 2019, the conference and exhibition hosted by GS1 US®, June 19-21, 2019 at the Gaylord Rockies in Denver, Colorado. The conference theme, "Elevate," signifies the many opportunities for attendees to boost their knowledge, their business, and their industry amid increasing customer demands and technological advancements.

Mr. Achor has worked with more than a third of the Fortune 100 companies and several government organizations, including the Pentagon and the U.S. Treasury, to discuss the connection between happiness and success. To conduct his research on mindset, he traveled to 51 countries, speaking to farmers in Zimbabwe, CEOs in China, doctors in Dubai and schoolchildren in South Africa. During his 12-year tenure at Harvard, Mr. Achor won more than a dozen distinguished teaching awards, and his research on happiness was a featured cover story in the Harvard Business Review. His TED talk "The Happy Secret to Better Work" has more than 16 million views online.

During the keynote speech, Mr. Achor will discuss how happiness can be a key competitive advantage that drives change. He will share how success is primarily based on optimism, social support, and the ability to manage energy and stress in a positive way. Attendees will learn how to apply practical strategies for maintaining a more positive approach during rapidly changing and challenging times.

"Shawn explores how we can redefine our own formulas for success, and eliminate the obstacles that keep us from achieving our fullest potential," said Bob Carpenter, president and CEO of GS1 US. "Much like our 'Elevate' theme, Shawn's perspective encourages everyone to consider how an optimistic outlook can positively impact our ability to rise above new hurdles and meet today's challenges."

During the conference, industry leaders from the healthcare, retail, foodservice and grocery sectors will present their experiences leveraging GS1 Standards to achieve supply chain traceability, product information transparency, launch successful blockchain implementations and other key objectives driven by new consumer and business dynamics. This includes a new Innovation Track, where attendees can explore the intersection of GS1 Standards and disruptive technology that could soon have an impact on their businesses, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality and augmented reality (VR/AR) and robotic process automation (RPA).

GS1 Connect also features other unique opportunities for attendees to connect and learn: "How to Do Business With" sessions, Trading Partner Roundtables, the "Standardsville" exhibit area, and a Tech Track showcasing the latest products and solutions. GS1 US University certificate courses and workshops are also offered for those looking to build their GS1 Standards foundational knowledge and maximize the conference program.
