Cubic Executive to Discuss Importance of Low and Middle-Income Inclusivity in Mobility as a Service at CALACT Conference
Cubic Transportation Systems President Matt Cole to advocate for public transit to ensure the social equity of Mobility as a Service

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB) today announced that its Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) business division President and Cubic Corporation Senior Vice President, Matt Cole, will discuss public transit's responsibility to ensure social equity through Mobility as a Service (MaaS) at the 2018 CALACT Autumn Technology & Shared Mobility Conference from November 12–15 in Napa, California.

Under its NextCity strategy, Cubic advocates that public transit operators are best suited to lead the MaaS implementation and revolutionize the journeys of all travelers regardless of age, disability, or economic status.

"We are not far from a world in which transportation is more sustainable and people-centered than it is today, world in which it significantly enhances the user experience and even supports economic growth, all while realizing key policy objectives, such as eco-friendliness and accessibility for all, including low-income and underserved communities," said Matt Cole, president, CTS.

Cole will discuss why private operators tend to target a limited percentage of the traveling public. Typically, the target group is comprised of the more affluent and digitally savvy consumers, as demonstrated by private operators that strategically avoid low-income areas. "Rather than increasing mobility choices and being economically sustainable, the current vision of MaaS reinforces the existing patterns of social exclusion in underserved and isolated communities," said Cole. "As a result, if MaaS is to cater to all travelers, any future funding model and policy needs to promote the efficient use of the network over the private gain of any particular operator."

Cole will present at the following session:

  • "Moving MaaS into Disinvested Communities"
Wednesday, November 14, 9:40 a.m. (local time); Mt. Veeder Room, Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa; Napa, California.
