-- Summit to Explore Policy Challenges and Solutions in 2019

MIAMI, Nov. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Miami Herald will mark the culmination of its Florida Influencer Series by hosting the Florida Priorities Summit on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the University of Miami. The event will convene leaders, decision makers and voters for an inclusive, civil, dynamic gathering that challenges political assumptions and creates a shared vision for Florida.

Miami Herald Hosts Florida Priorities Summit

The Florida Priorities Summit is a continuation of conversations sparked by the Miami Herald Influencer Series -- an unparalleled project that put a sharp focus on policy issues most pressing for voters, and offered insight and perspective on those issues from influential leaders from across the state of Florida.

The Florida Priorities Summit will be composed of live interviews, panel discussions, live/social media Q & A and participant-generated recommendations. Portions of the event will be livestreamed.

"The Influencer Series and Florida Priorities Summit are designed to engage readers and leading voices across the state in curated, smart conversations focused on policy issues and solutions that will build a better Florida," said Alexandra Villoch, president and publisher of the Miami Herald Media Company and McClatchy's East Region publisher. "We're grateful to have the partnership and collaboration of our sponsors whose support has made this future-facing initiative possible."

Funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation supports The Influencer Series and the Florida Priorities Summit. The event is hosted by the University of Miami in collaboration with the SayfieReview. Sponsors also include Baptist Health South Florida, Uber, The Everglades Foundation, as well as AT&T and Telemundo.

"Providing forums for informed debate and consensus-building among people of diverse backgrounds and political beliefs fosters democracy," said Alberto Ibargüen, Knight Foundation president. "Communities must be shaped by their residents—the summit offers the opportunity to do that."

"Sayfie Review is delighted to be collaborating with the Miami Herald on the Florida Priorities Summit," said Justin Sayfie, publisher of the Sayfie Review. "Florida is the largest bell-weather state in the country, and we are looking forward to engaging our readers and the influential Florida leaders assembled by the Herald to address Florida's most critical issues."

Participants and speakers will tackle a number of policy areas including:

  • Education: Raising the Bar for All
  • Transportation and infrastructure: Smart Cities -- Innovative Travel, 5G and the Political Drive to Make it Happen
