NANJING, China, Sept. 14, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- As an important platform to showcase the latest achievements of China's Internet of Things (IoT), the 2018 World Internet of Things Expo will be held from September 15 to 18. More than 30 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Engineering, a number of foreign academicians and 35 companies of Top 500 will gather in Wuxi. After years of cultivation, the IoT has become a "Pearl" of Wuxi; in 2017, the industrial operating income was 243.7 billion yuan, close to 1/2 of that of Jiangsu Province.
The IoT has been seen as the "third wave" after computers and the Internet. Thanks to sensor research and the technological accumulation of the integrated circuit industry, Wuxi was designated to build the "Experience China" center in 2009. After the preliminary exploration, Wuxi's IoT development accelerated significantly in 2015. In the past three years, with the convergence of IoT and new information technology industries such as cloud computing and big data, Wuxi has emerged a series of new products and technologies.
The narrow band IoT has been covered in Wuxi for public utilities and intelligent cities. In underground car parks, owners can easily locate their cars or find empty parking spaces. Nowadays, there are over 2,000 enterprises and 180,000 employees related to IoT in Wuxi.
This year, Wuxi continued to deepen the blend of IoT and manufacturing network, and focused on organizing 100 companies to conduct intelligent manufacturing diagnosis. Many companies have tasted the sweetness of "Intelligent Production." The number of employees in the production line of Wuxi Daika Wheel Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was reduced from 800 to 300 and the annual per capita production increased from 4,300 to 10,000. The IoT is also closely integrated into urban development. In the Hongshan IoT town, solar intelligent dustbin can be seen everywhere. When garbage approaches, the dustbin door will open and will start deodorization automatically. Wuxi has implemented over 300 IoT application demonstration projects, including 21 national-level projects.
Zhou Wendong, director of the Wuxi Commission of Economy and Information Technology, said that the IoT has become a new gene and pillar of Wuxi's economic development. In the future, it will continue to be a leader in key technologies and business models.
