STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The State of Arizona and Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), a leading global technology research and advisory firm, discussed the success of their Robotic Process Automation (RPA) partnership at the recent National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) Conference in Salt Lake City.
Clark Partridge, state comptroller for Arizona, and Nathan Frey, partner, ISG Public Sector, presented the results of an assessment of RPA opportunities in three Arizona state agencies and demonstrated the software bot technology used to streamline processes within the state's General Accounting Office (GAO) and Department of Economic Security (DES).
"Like so many state governments and private enterprises today, the State of Arizona has more work than its staff can typically support," said Frey. "We were honored to work with the state government to evaluate and demonstrate ways in which RPA technology can meaningfully reduce the time and effort required to undertake labor-intensive, time-consuming processes. These processes require humans to perform repetitive tasks, such as keying data from one unintegrated system to another."
In December 2017, the Arizona GAO and ISG completed an RPA assessment that identified 10 finance, accounting and reporting processes that were suitable candidates for automation because of their repetitive, recurring and rules-based nature. The project moved into a production pilot phase in May 2018, developing software bots that would handle processes across multiple agencies.
"RPA offered the potential to accomplish more with the same resources by automating business processes to relieve workers of routine and repetitive tasks, so staff members could focus on more urgent matters," Frey said.
During the NASACT Conference presentation, Partridge and Frey demonstrated process automations the State of Arizona developed as part of the program. Each automation demonstrated the power of RPA to replicate the keystrokes and business rules used by staff members to perform certain tasks in state systems.
Now that the pilot has proven successful, the state will evaluate the additional strategy, approach and governance needed to expand automations to other agencies within the broader organization.
