Green Hills Software Expands Safety-Critical Integrated Cockpit Solutions with Automotive Grade Linux
INTEGRITY Trusted Separation Architecture Safely Hosts Rich Cockpit Application Environment from The Linux Foundation Alongside Life-Critical Automotive Applications

TOKYO, June 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- AUTOMOTIVE LINUX SUMMIT — Green Hills Software, the global leader in high-assurance real-time operating systems, today announced the availability of INTEGRITY® Multivisor™ secure virtualization and advanced development tools for Automotive Grade Linux (AGL) on leading 64-bit automotive grade SoCs. For the first time, AGL applications can be added to automotive systems meeting the highest ISO 26262 safety levels through the INTEGRITY real-time operating system (RTOS). As a result, OEMs can confidently run AGL-based infotainment and connected car applications in secure partitions alongside safety-critical and security-critical functions including instrument clusters, rear-view camera, ADAS, OTA, gateway and V2X. The results are lower system costs, more scalable platforms, shorter development times and lower ASIL certification costs.

The Automotive Grade Linux project is a collaborative cross-industry effort developing an open software stack for the software defined automotive cockpit and hosted by The Linux Foundation.

"We are pleased to have Green Hills Software participating in our growing and global community," said Dan Cauchy, Executive Director of Automotive Grade Linux. "Their experience and technology help customers build and deploy safe and secure AGL-based vehicle software and we look forward to their contributions to expand and further establish AGL as an industry standard."

As a Member for AGL, Green Hills is demonstrating a consolidated integrated cockpit that incorporates AGL at the Automotive Linux Summit, June 20-22 in Tokyo. The INTEGRITY RTOS and Multivisor hypervisor safely and securely run a safety-critical instrument cluster alongside AGL-based infotainment applications. Both domains safely share high-performance and smooth 3D OpenGL graphics provided by the cross-platform Qt Automotive Suite graphics framework.

Over its 25 years in the automotive industry, the Green Hills ecosystem for the integrated cockpit has grown to dozens of partners providing safe and secure integrated solutions running on all major automotive-grade SoC manufacturers including Qualcomm Technologies, Renesas, NXP, Intel, STMicroelectronics and NVIDIA.

"Integrated cockpits today need a scalable software architecture to safely and securely combine Linux and Android infotainment functions with critical vehicle functions that require automotive-grade safety and certification. When used with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820A Automotive platform, the Green Hills breakthrough INTEGRITY RTOS and Multivisor virtualization solution allows global Tier 1s and OEMs to take on this challenge," said Nakul Duggal, vice president for product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "We look forward to further strengthening our relationship with Green Hills, as we share the commitment to offer the safety-conscious and security-rich, performance solutions that can define the future of high-performance, scalable vehicle cockpits."

"Renesas' R-Car is one of the standard reference platforms for AGL and has supported the system development of customers," said Masayasu Yoshida, Senior Director of Automotive Information Solution Business Division, at Renesas Electronics Corporation. "With INTEGRITY Multivisor now compatible with AGL, we are very pleased that INTEGRITY RTOS and AGL can be implemented safely and securely on the R-Car platform. We are confident that our achievement will contribute to further acceleration in the development of cockpit systems."

Green Hills Software's INTEGRITY Multivisor is the system virtualization service for the certified INTEGRITY RTOS microkernel. The INTEGRITY RTOS architecture is certified at the highest levels of automotive safety – ISO 2626262 ASIL D – and is the only operating system architecture to ever achieve the world's highest level of security EAL 6+, Separation Kernel Protection Profile, Common Criteria. Since 2003, INTEGRITY Multivisor has been the industry's only safe and secure architecture with this trusted pedigree for simultaneously running one or more guest operating systems alongside life-critical functions on a single multicore SoC. Other features tailored to rigorous embedded systems are:

  • Safe and secure device sharing, such as GPU, between AGL and critical applications
  • Fast boot critical tasks in tens of milliseconds
  • Single unified debugger gives developers deep visibility into Linux and INTEGRITY kernels, drivers and applications
  • Secure IPC between native RTOS tasks and Linux
  • Proven customer deployments since 2003

Availability
INTEGRITY and INTEGRITY Multivisor for Automotive Grade Linux are available to early access customers today on the Qualcomm Technologies' Snapdragon 820A Automotive platform and Renesas R-Car H3 SoC.
