DOTHAN, Ala., April 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Forty percent of all psychiatric disorders are treatment-resistant. Of these, major depression, one of the most common psychiatric disorders in the United States, is overrepresented. In 2016, an estimated 16.2 million adults in the United States had experienced at least one major depressive episode, representing 6.7% of all U.S. adults (NIH, 2016). The prevalence of adults with a major depressive episode was highest among individuals aged 18-25 (10.9%) with 64% having severe impairment (NIH, 2016).
