Revealed: Key Trends in the Alternate Site Health Care Industry
Key and emerging trends in the spotlight at the 15th Annual MHA Business Summit

During the MHA Business Summit, key trends transforming the industry were identified and discussed, including:

  • Technology and software advancements are transforming how and where care is delivered: this 'new normal' is highly dynamic, and partnering with companies that explore new ways to apply innovation to the long-term care market is a core driver of success and differentiation for care providers. A number of sessions including a well-received breakout by SoftWriters, an MHA company, and demos delivered in the exhibition hall, provided attendees with a first-hand view of how this innovation may be effectively applied to their own practices.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration to prevent gaps in the continuum of care remains an urgent need. Even in times of software-driven gains, 'classic' cross-disciplinary teams can deliver clear improvements, e.g. transitional care to prevent and reduce re-hospitalizations. At the Summit, SHP, an MHA company and a leader in benchmarking software for the home health, hospice and home infusion markets, demonstrated how software and data analytics can provide in-depth tools to assist in the management of the continuum of care in the home infusion and home health space.
  • Health care is being transformed to center around patients as retail consumers. In the context of paying more of their own medical care, consumers face major decisions how to identify clinical and financial value. As explored by several keynote speakers, this means that health care is entering the consumer-driven economy that characterizes much of today's society, with a focus on what consumers can afford to meet their health care needs. This transformation points towards a new health care economy favoring lower-cost providers who can show consistent quality and operate efficiently, while marketing themselves directly to consumers.

Michael J. Sicilian, MHA President, commented, "We're excited to share with our Members insights and tools that are vital to continue thriving in a dynamic market that's being increasingly transformed not only by software innovations but also by consumer-centric trends. The strong Member turn-out for our 15th Annual Business Summit tells us the alternate site health care industry continues to embrace this unique opportunity to understand the macro trends impacting their business, evaluate software and other solutions, and network to share insights and opportunities with each other."
