VIEVU Successfully Equips Miami-Dade Police Department with 1,000 Body Worn Cameras
Miami-Dade Police Department implements VIEVU Solution cloud-based evidence management system in conjunction with camera deployment

SEATTLE, Oct. 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Safariland Group ("Safariland"), the parent company of VIEVU®, a leading provider of body worn video cameras used by thousands of law enforcement agencies in 17 countries, today announced it has satisfied its contract to provide body worn cameras to the Miami-Dade Police Department (the "MDPD"), enabling the MDPD to achieve its goal of deploying more than 1,000 body worn cameras by the end of September 2016.

"We are proud to have successfully outfitted approximately 1,000 of our officers with body worn cameras, which has had an immediate and positive impact on our agency and the safety of the communities we serve," said Captain Gustavo Duarte of the Miami-Dade Police Department. "We are pleased to have quickly received these products, enabling us to reach our target date of September 30, 2016."

"We are pleased to have delivered on our commitment to the Miami-Dade Police Department, demonstrating our ability to meet the rapidly increasing demand for VIEVU products and services," said Scott O'Brien, president of Safariland. "Importantly, other departments and agencies across the country will benefit from the MDPD body worn camera program, which is being partially funded with a $1 million grant from the United States Department of Justice. The effectiveness of Miami-Dade's program, including performance metrics and other statistics, as well as the strategies and policies developed, will be monitored and used by police departments across the nation to effectively implement additional body worn camera programs."

The video data collected from the body worn cameras provided to the MDPD officers equipped with the body worn cameras will be uploaded, stored, and managed on VIEVU Solution, the industry's most flexible and mobile-friendly evidence management system built on the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud.

"A police officer's body worn camera generates massive amounts of data. This requires a reliable and trusted data storage solution that reduces the burden on an agency's IT department and can support the growing demands for storing and managing evidence data throughout its lifecycle," said Michael Donlan, vice president, U.S. State and Local Government, Microsoft. "By using the Microsoft Azure Government Cloud, agencies are able to easily handle the scale and size of video data produced, without having to invest in new servers and other resources to manage this data. In addition, because Microsoft Azure Government Cloud aligns with the FBI's regulatory compliance standards, agencies are able to trust in our platform and meet CJIS compliance requirements."

Safariland acquired VIEVU in June 2015 with the objective of meaningfully investing in VIEVU and leveraging its body worn cameras and technologies across Safariland's robust distribution network and extensive relationships with police departments.
