TCS and Industry Partners Address the Growing STEM Talent Gap in the U.S. at the 2016 Global STEM Talent Summit
25 Business Organizations Partnering With STEMconnector® to Focus on Scalable, Sustainable Solutions to Develop STEM Talent

WASHINGTON and MUMBAI, India, April 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Tata Consultancy Services (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, will join the nation's top employers and industry thought leaders at the Global STEM Talent Summit on April 28, 2016, in Washington DC. The event is an outcome of three years of cross-sector efforts led by the STEM Innovation Task Force, co-chaired by TCS, which pioneered the STEM 2.0TM model and built market platforms such as the STEM Career Accelerator Day and Global STEM Talent Summit to offer innovative solutions in tackling the STEM talent gap in the U.S. and globally.

"Business leaders have set the tone by ramping up investments and engagement in STEM education," said Edie Fraser, Chief Executive Officer of STEMconnector®. "Now we're shifting our focus to preparing the long-term talent pool necessary to drive innovation and economic growth."

The Summit is led by STEMconnector®, the leading organization working with industry, higher education, NGOs, and the public sector to provide critical resources to develop smart STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) investments. The event serves as a platform for discussion, sharing best practices in STEM talent development strategies and taking collective action to drive scale, speed and action. The outcome of the Summit will be STEMconnector® and 25 corporate partners outlining a strategic roadmap to drive sustainable impact and deliver tangible solutions to close the STEM skills gap in the US.

"The STEM skills challenge can be solved if we broaden the base of interested American students, increase persistence and retention from K-12 to college, and create career readiness for a truly diverse workforce," said Surya Kant, President of North America, UK and Europe, TCS. "These steps are critical in order to foster far broader digital fluency, innovation excellence and industry specific and employability skills to meet the business needs of the 21st century workplace."

"The Global STEM Talent Summit is a major industry-led step seeking to solve the STEM talent deficit that exists in the U.S. and across the world," added Dr. Heidi Kleinbach-Sauter, Senior Vice President of R&D, PepsiCo and Chairwoman of the Global STEM Talent Summit. "It is now critical for the private sector to convene and create an actionable plan to future proof economic growth."

Careers in STEM disciplines provide a unique opportunity for gender diversity, wage equity, economic growth, and social prosperity. Last year, 600,000+ high-paying tech jobs across the U.S. were unfilled, and by 2018, 51 percent of all STEM jobs are projected to be in computer science fields. Computer and data science are important for the tech sector and many other industries. Such occupations are among the highest-paying jobs for new graduates, yet fewer than three percent of U.S. college students graduate with a degree in computer science.

The 2016 STEMconnector® strategic partners include Apollo Education Group, APCO Worldwide, AT&T, BAE Systems, BP, Burning Glass, Carnival Corporation, Cengage Learning, Centene Corporation, Cigna, Dassault Systems, Deloitte, FedEx, Gallup, Honeywell, Hope Street Group, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, Monsanto, Monster, PepsiCo, Smiths Group, Sodexo, Tata Consultancy Services, and Walmart.
