Lake Whillans Releases First Ever Life Science Law Firm Index, Naming Wilson Sonsini, WilmerHale and Cooley as Top Three Firms

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- 34th Annual JP Morgan Healthcare Conference -- Lake Whillans Litigation Finance LLC, a firm specializing in litigation finance and distressed venture capital, today releases its first Life Sciences Law Firm Index which identifies the law firms that are most active and relevant for life science companies.  Topping the index are the following firms:

  • Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (89.1 out of 100)
  • WilmerHale (86.1 out of 100)
  • Cooley (83.3 out of 100)
  • Jones Day (82.2 out of 100)
  • McDermott Will & Emery (80.5 out of 100)

The index was compiled with the most meaningful criteria for healthcare innovators.  Information was collected from three practice areas – corporate, intellectual property and regulatory – and also was generated based on specific work and results with health care start up companies and thought leadership contributions to the field of life science litigation and general law.

"Life sciences is one of the most challenging industries for entrepreneurs, who face complexities around regulatory compliance, funding, product development, clinical trials, intellectual property and even more considerations," said Lee Drucker, CoFounder of Lake Whillans.  "Lake Whillans created this index with the goal of providing start ups and more established health science companies with clear information on criteria and further rankings around the firms with the most comprehensive experience in the life sciences life cycle."

"The complex life cycles of a life sciences product – and company – require an intense amount of legal and business expertise across many practices, combined with deep scientific knowledge," added Drucker.  "This index answers key questions around what type of firm to engage when, and if legal resource consolidation makes sense."

The results are announced in conjunction with JP Morgan's 34th annual Healthcare Conference in San Francisco.  The index research was conducted by the research team at Breaking Media, parent company of MedCity News and Above the Law.
