Feeding the Good Food Future

BOULDER, Colo., Nov. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The future of food was on display and the subject of passionate discussion at Esca Bona, a new conference created by New Hope Natural Media. Held Oct. 26-28, 2015, in Austin, Texas, Esca Bona brought together disruptive entrepreneurs and the leading minds from across the food world to tackle the toughest challenges facing the good food movement. "Our inaugural Esca Bona community—which included entrepreneurs, technologists, business executives from some of the largest food companies in the world and policy leaders, including a member of the White House staff—came to Austin ready to address the problems facing our food system," said Carlotta Mast, executive director of content at New Hope and co-creator of the Esca Bona event. "For three days, people were actively engaged in bringing real solutions to issues such as increasing access to and the affordability of healthy food, scaling the organic supply chain, and responsibly using technology to create a more sustainable food supply."

The highly curated event brought renegades from across the food supply chain including: large CPG brands such as Nestle Purina, Campbell's and Pepsi; natural product visionaries such as Stonyfield's Gary Hirshberg, Honest Tea's Seth Goldman and Clif Bar's Kevin Cleary; and emerging innovators from brands including EpicBar, Back to the Roots and Loliware to collaborate on ideas.

"Esca Bona was amazing for us," said Nikhil Arora, co-founder of Back to the Roots. "It brought together the pioneers within the industry with the most cutting-edge entrepreneurs in one room to engage in conversations about where the industry is going.  We left inspired."

Esca Bona was created to be a "do-and-show" event that both educates and pushes the boundaries of participants to dig deep into monumental challenges facing the food system.

Topics explored included:

  • Trust Through Transparency
  • Massive Access and Affordability
  • Authenticity Rock Stardom
  • Saving Food's Renegades
  • NourishTech

Attendees were also treated to an "Entrepreneur's Kitchen and Garage" that highlighted some of the most innovative ideas in food including edible insects, nutritious food produced from waste and cutting edge technology to deliver "Just Picked" fresh organic produce at the press of a button.

Participants left inspired by the people they met, supported by new relationships, friendships and partners to promote their ideas, missions and businesses.

"I loved the intimacy of the event. I met so many different people from different parts of the county I normally wouldn't have had the chance to meet," said Sheridan Budin from Nestle Purina. "I had the quality time to learn about their business and how they're making a change. I plan to keep in touch with them after the show."
