Alcantara's Italian Style Meets Germany's Cutting Edge At Frankfurt Auto Show

Alcantara's "Made in Italy" material incorporates a combination of innovative techniques and stylistic finishes that offer weight savings with a focus on sustainability.

Audi's new A4 G-Tron featured sporty seats and door panels in specially embossed deep black Alcantara at the Frankfurt show. Alcantara provides a unique blend of grip, light weight and breathability. The material's light weight and certification as carbon-neutral also supported G-Tron's development goals for lighter weight and reduced CO2 emissions.

Certified as carbon neutral since 2009, Alcantara has served as a reference point for electric and hybrid vehicles designed to reduce a vehicle's impact on the environment. The light-grey interior of the Audi E-Tron Quattro concept car, for example, is a synthesis of the German automaker's use of sustainable materials and solutions. The vehicle features door panels, central seat inserts, a headliner and a glove compartment in light-grey Alcantara.

BMW also offered a range of new vehicles at the Frankfurt show fitted out with Alcantara. The new 7 Series, for example, had a truffle-colored Alcantara headliner.

Volkswagen renewed its historic collaboration with Alcantara on the Golf GTi Clubsport as well. Alcantara was the material of choice on the car's gear-shift knob and sporty steering wheel, which was finished in grey Alcantara with contrasting red stitching. The vehicle's seats were dressed with grey Alcantara side panels and included center sections in a honeycomb design with a racing motif to ensure a proper grip in any situation.
